Star Party Food

Planning the menu can be the most stressful part of the party. You want to serve beautiful, yummy food, but kids can be hesitant to try new things. Here are a few fun ideas that are sure to please.

Food:
Make peanut butter and jam sandwiches and use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut our a star shaped sandwich.

I've recently discovered that my daughters love eating off skewers, and we couldn't think of a better way to round out your menu than with a fresh fruit skewer. Use a mix of pineapple, watermelon and cantaloupe, and cute them into flat 1" slices.  Then take a small star shaped cookie cutter and cute little stars of the fruit.  The stick them on the skewers rotating through the different fruits.  If you have cut fruit that will brown you may want to drizzle the pieces with lemon juice to keep them fresh. Serve with a spoonful of your favorite fruit dip and there won't be any leftovers.

Drink:
Looking for a cool way to dress up your drink?  These star shaped ice trays are perfect. Mix some lemonade or go for red kool-aid and pour it into a shaped ice tray. When you are ready for drinks poor a clear soda or punch into a clear cup and place the ice cubes in right before serving. It will be the talk of the party.

Dessert:
Make your favorite star shaped cutout cookies.  One option is to decorate your stars with frosting and sprinkle them with edible sparkles.  Another fun option is to color the cookie dough yellow and then take two of the baked stars and put a layer of frosting between them making them a star cookie sandwich.

Make your own Star Wand Popcicles with the ice tray pictured above.  You will need strong straws or wood skewers.  Then make a mix of your favorite lemonade or pineapple juice.  Add some yellow food coloring for a little extra color.  Freeze and wrap with plastic wrap and ribbon and you have custom edible star wands for your guests.
